FROM THE PAST WITH DIFFERENT NAMES

The following are some diseases that were once very common and had names that were different than those that we use today.

Cancer (carcinoma, oncos, tumors)
Influenza (the grippe)
Poliomyelitis (Heine-Medin disease)
Typhoid Fever (Salmonella enterica typhi, Eberthella typhi)
Chicken pox (little smallpox)
Intussusception (telescoping of the bowels)
Scarlet Fever (scarlatina, rossalia)
Typhus (camp fever, jail fever, war fever)
Cholera (blue death)
Measles-both kinds (rubella, roseola)
Septicemia (blood poisoning)
Tuberculosis (consumption)
Diphtheria (strangling angel)
Meningitis (brain fever)
Small Pox (red plague, speckled monster)
Yellow Fever (black vomit)
Dysentery (bloody flux, diarrhea)
